Travel Itinerary
Day 1 - Luang Prabang to Muang Ngoi
Pick up at your hotel at 8am for the 4-5hour drive to Nong Khiaw. Along the way, we will stop at Ban Nayang, an indigo weaving village. There you will learn how the many different colors of indigo dye are created and the process for dyeing the threads for the weavers. You will spend two hours in the village, involved with villagers in different stages of indigo product production. We will finish the visit with a meal at a local house before heading to Nong Khiaw.
After arrival in Nong Khiaw you will have a short break before climbing aboard your long trail boat for the 45-minute cruise up the Nam Ou River to Muang Ngoi. The time will pass by quickly as the scenery along the river is at times breathtaking as you move between karst formations, watching children swim and play in the river, water buffaloes grazing and enjoying the coolness of the river and changes in the river at every turn.
Upon arrival in Muang Ngoi and then you will check in to the hotel before you will exploring Muang Ngoi village and also hike to the Phu pha Noi view point, it’s one the highlight of the trip where you can see beautiful view (panorama view), from the beginning it will take about 30 minutes to reach the summit.
(Highly recommend the best time is during the sunset, make sure that you bring enough drinking water and head torch)
Overnight in Muang Ngoi
Day 2 - Biking to NongKiaw
Up early to pack up the campsite. You’ll descend the mountain to have breakfast in Muang Ngoi. Take half an hour for breakfast and then pick up your bike for the 2-3hour off-road trip to Nong Khiaw. Along the way, you’ll bike through farmlands and groves of orange trees.
You’ll arrive in Nong Khiaw just in time for lunch. We’ll plan a little break for you to get your energy back from the morning bike ride before continuing on to Tham Phatok, formerly a cave used as a hospital and school by villagers and soldiers during The Secret War (1964-1973). After visiting the cave, you’ll have free time for the rest of the evening. You might want to take in a sunset from a viewpoint on Phu Pha Deng Mountain or just hang out in one of the many popular bars in town.

Day 3 - Half day Kayaking and Return to Luang Prabang
Breakfast is on your own this morning, but you’ll want to be ready to start kayaking at 9:00am. You’ll be in the water for 3 hours. Though this will be beginner level kayaking, you’re going to experience daily life activities-farming, fishing, swimming- along the river, changes of scenery as the river changes direction and the breathtaking mountains along the river.
Our bus will pick you up at the end point and head back to Luang Prabang. There will be plenty of photo ops along the way, including a hydro-electric dam being constructed on the river. The trip back to Luang Prabang will take about 4 hours, depending on the road condition and traffic.
Anticipate arriving in Luang Prabang late afternoon.
